Overview

The 50 Yard Challenge by neWwave — A social impact mobile app designed to help young volunteers track their journey, submit lawn work, unlock milestone rewards.

Description

Overview

The 50 Yard Challenge App helps young volunteers track their journey to complete 50 lawns for people in need. Built with a simple, kid-friendly experience, the app streamlines the challenge from signup to completion while giving participants, guardians, and admins a clear way to manage progress.

The platform supports the mission of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service by making every lawn submission easier to record, every milestone easier to celebrate, and every volunteer journey easier to follow.

Description

At neWwave, we believe technology becomes most powerful when it supports real-world impact. The 50 Yard Challenge is a strong example of that belief — a digital product built not only to manage activity, but to encourage kindness, responsibility, and youth volunteering.

The app was designed to make the challenge feel simple, fun, and motivating for young participants. From creating a profile to submitting lawn photos, tracking progress, viewing achievements, requesting shirts, and appearing on the leaderboard, every flow was built around clarity and encouragement.

For administrators, the platform creates a more organized way to review submissions, manage users, approve shirt requests, post announcements, and track participant progress across different states. This turns a growing community movement into a structured digital experience that is easier to manage and scale.

Features We Engineered

Participant Profiles with Guardian Support

The app allows participants to create profiles with guardian-related information, child details, location, shirt size, and profile photo uploads. This gives every volunteer a clear identity inside the challenge while keeping the signup flow simple and accessible.

Lawn Logging with Before-and-After Photos

Participants can submit each completed lawn by entering who they mowed for, how many hours it took, and uploading supporting photos. The flow includes before photos, after photos, action photos, and homeowner photos to help admins verify each submission clearly.

Progress Tracking from 0 to 50

The app tracks each participant’s journey toward completing 50 lawns. Users can view total lawns moved, total hours, categories of people they helped, latest work, and overall progress in a visual dashboard.

Milestone Shirt Rewards

The challenge includes milestone rewards every 10 lawns. The app turns this into a clear achievement system, allowing participants to see which shirt level they have unlocked and what milestone comes next.

Leaderboard Experience

The leaderboard highlights top participants and creates friendly motivation across the challenge. It showcases total hours, moved lawns, top rankings, and featured volunteers in a fun and energetic way.

Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame celebrates participants who reach major milestones in the challenge. It gives the program a stronger sense of recognition and helps inspire others to keep going.

Shirt Request Management

Participants can request shirts as they reach new levels, while admins can review, approve, or reject those requests through a dedicated admin dashboard. This helps reduce manual work and keeps reward fulfillment more organized.

Admin Notification Board

Admins can view new lawn submissions, search for participants, filter by state, and manage incoming activity from one organized board. This improves visibility and helps the team respond faster.

User Dashboard for Admins

The admin side includes a user dashboard where administrators can view participant details, parent information, city, state, email, shirt size, total moved lawns, and achievement level.

News & Announcement Management

The platform includes an announcement and news area where admins can post updates, share videos, and communicate important information with participants and families.

Immersive Nature-Inspired UI

The visual design uses soft green tones, grass-inspired textures, clouds, bees, butterflies, leaves, and friendly bold typography. This creates a playful and positive experience that matches the outdoor, youth-focused spirit of the challenge.
